In 1978, Maretha Fourie gathered a group of new friends to whom she taught the joys of quilt making. She initiated quilting groups, and in 1987 initiated the establishment of the Golden Rand Guild for Quilters.
The Golden Rand Guild is a non-pro t organisation whose main aim is to foster the art of quilting and textile-related art in and around Johannesburg. GRG is a liated to the South African Quilters’ Guild, the governing body for South Africa.
The guild holds Quarterly Friendship Meetings to promote skills, knowledge, friendship and camaraderie among all quilters.
Many of our groups are involved in ‘Share & Care’ projects to facilitate the art of quilt making in our community.
